The Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) established World Intellectual Property Day in order to increase public understanding of what intellectual property (IP) really means and to demonstrate how the IP system fosters not only music, the arts and entertainments, but also the products and technological innovations that help to shape our world. The focus this year is on celebrating innovation and promoting respect for intellectual property (IP). Activities and events are planned throughout the world.
