Seeing stars can be a good thing. Over the last few years the Librarians at the Sunnyvale Public Library have been putting stars on the spines of award winning books. These books are good bets for a winning read. So far we’ve done the major fiction and mystery awards and are currently finishing the non-fiction awards.
Our ‘starred’ books in the regular Fiction Section have a bright yellow star and have either won or been nominated by the following organizations:
- American Library Association’s Notable Fiction
- The Man Booker Prize
- Pulitzer Prize
- New York Times Editors Choice
- Library Journal’s Best Books
- National Book Award Fiction Finalists
- Pen/Faulkner Award for Fiction
- National Book Critics Circle
- Kiriyama Prize
The mystery and suspense books will have a neon green star if they’ve been nominated for or won an award by:
- Mystery Writers of America (The Edgar)
- Malice Domestic (The Agatha)
- Mystery Readers International (The Macavity)
- Bouchercon (The Anthony)
Non-Fiction books winners have a bright pink star:
- The Pulitzer
- National Book Award
- ALA Notable Books
- National Book Critic’s Circle Award
- Thomas Cook Travel Book Award
- Book Sense Book of the Year
- Kiriyama Prize
